IES LA ZAFRA is a secondary and vocational high school placed in Motril, the coast of Granada province in Andalucia, southern Spain. The school comprises around 1900 students and from 125 to 135 teachers depending on the school year. IES LA ZAFRA is plurilingual. PE, Arts, History and Science are taught in English and Maths and Music are taught in French. It offers a wide variety of vocational courses. The school pioneers in our region by offering DUAL Vocational Courses, a branch that consist on mixing training with theorical lessons in a 50%. It has been involved in Erasmus Project since 2014, with various KA103 sending vocational courses students to training in European Countries, two KA102 and three KA101 related to the implementation of plurinligual program in the curriculum. We have also been involved in a KA201 for two years now, and starting new projects already accepted and ready to start in KA229 and KA104 sections. Motivation and good practice are key element for the everyday of IES LA ZAFRA.
After attending several courses on motivation and staff management, and putting in practice all the knowledge acquired, changes have been introduced gradually in our school, turning from bilingual to plurilingual in only 4 years and improving results in national test dramatically. A key element in this process was the use of technology. Being our school involved in the ITC Program, we had the chance to motivate students to get involved in different subjects.
TEACHERS IN PROJECT
Francisco Jose Lopez Bovet is the Head of the English department and the coordinator on the international issues. He has been involved in Erasmus+ projects since 2014 and has given speeches at local and national level related to motivational issues to get involved in European programmes.
Jose Miguel Fernandez Alvarez is Head teacher and has been coordinating international issues for two years. He has been part of the regional formative centre for teachers during 8 years.
